Only the top 4 teams go to the State Champs and there seems to be a very close competition for that 4th place in both the Girl’s and Boy’s varsity races. The Individual rankings have also been updated to include the results of the Frosh and Soph Champs. Good luck to all the athletes and coaches!!!!

You can find the listings on the rankings page. Caution!!!!! Frosh and Soph runners are notorious for being unpredictable, but at least everyone should have an approximate idea as to how the teams and individuals stand. Good luck at F/S Champs and the City Champs.

The updated team rankings, two weeks before the City Champs, are now posted. Expect a close and exciting race, as a number of teams have improved their postions over the last two weeks. The final rankings will be posted next Monday (11/09). Please note that the Borough rankings will show the Championship results in the last column. There are many reasons why expectations may not agree with reality. A coach may choose not to run a top athlete in the Boroughs, for fear that he or she might get injured before the City Champs. An athlete may have a minor injury or illness. A coach may decide to run his varsity team in the jv race, as was the case in the Bronx boys champs. In any case, the best teams will eventually rise to the top. Good luck to all the athletes and coaches in the upcoming championship races.

The new team rankings for the Staten Island Girls has now been posted. It came to my attention, that the top runner from Curtis is now back and hopefully, healthy. Because of her return the rankings were changed before today’s Staten Island Champs. Her return will also affect the City rankings, but I will wait until after the Borough Champs are finished in order to revise the overall rankings.

The updated girls rankings are now posted. Please note that there are a number of changes in the rankings due in part to a change in the procedure used to calculate course differences. Care was taken not to over-weight the performances in the 2.5 mile run as compared to the 5000m run. For the Staten Island Borough and City-wide rankings adjustments were made to account for the “possible” injury of a key runner from Curtis. As always, the changes can sometimes be characterized as “subjective” and therefore the actual results for each Borough might differ from the projected results. Good luck to all the athletes and coaches in this week’s Borough Champs and the upcoming Frosh/Soph and City Champs.

The latest updates for the boys team and individual rankings are now posted. You will notice some changes in listings, due mostly to some “tweaking” of the methods used in the rankings procedure. Please note that any ranking system is an “art” and not a science. The new postings will give a close approximation for the placings in the upcoming Borough Champs. There are many variables which still might have a bearing on the results, such as injuries, weather conditions, etc. You can be sure that the City-wide rankings will change again after the Boroughs and the Frosh/Soph City Champs. Also note that the team listings have been extended to 7 places in each borough.
